The series was created by CLAMP in 1993 and was later poorly translated into English by Mixx Entertainment in 2000. Mixx decided to create more authentic translated versions of Japanese comics and changed their name to TokyoPop, which is currently one of the top Japanese manga translating and publishing companies. In late 2002, as a celebration of Magic Knight Rayearth's 10th anniversary, TokyoPop decided to reprint the series into all new "100% Authentic Manga" versions, which indicates that the book was to read from right to left (like the original Japanese) with better translations.
